Jason Kahn, born 1960 in New York, raised in Los Angeles. Moved to Europe in 1990 and is currently based in Zurich, where he is active as a musician, artist and writer. My work concentrates on the idea of space: the conceptual and physical juncture points, its production and dissolution, and our relation to it as a political, social and environmental medium. I use sound, in the context of composition, room installations, public space interventions, radio works and improvisation, to explore these different aspects of space. I see working with space as akin to a plastic medium, something we can shape both as a physical and conceptual form and use to change our perception of the world around us. To a certain extent, my work has a political imperative in that I am hoping to arise awareness of our social, physical and political environments through a focus on sound.
